Nico Gallo

I am a designer, engineer, and educator specializing in makerspace-based STEM instruction, with industry experiences that span the fields of product design, automotive repair, woodworking, and fine art. Read more about my approach to teaching in makerspaces here.

After studying mechanical engineering, I decided to expand my manual skillset by freelancing as a designer and builder throughout my 20s. My work experience during this time includes:

service technician at a moped shop // studio manager to an acclaimed visual artist // owner, project lead, and fabricator at an industrial design firm // furniture maker for many restaurants in Portsmouth, NH // mold-making and grunt work at a luxury concrete goods shop // assembly line worker // spatial and layout design for all sorts of shops // landscaping and painting // food service // CAD and DFM for medical devices startup

I have taught coursework in woodworking, engineering, fabrication, 3D design, architecture, and technology history at Phillips Exeter Academy (Exeter, NH), Maine FabLab (Biddeford, ME), Port City Makerspace (Portsmouth, NH), Sparhawk School (Amesbury, MA), and beyond. Currently, I manage a makerspace and coach the robotics team at a high school in Palo Alto, CA and in my spare time I maintain and ride a couple of old Yamaha motorcycles.
